Armando Lasa-Ferrer  (1937-2011)

Founding Partner

 

Mr. Lasa-Ferrer, one of the founding partners of Lasa, Monroig & Veve, for over thirty years focused  his practice on civil and commercial litigation, corporate counseling, transactional law and government relations.  He obtained his degrees from the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico (B.A. 1962; J.D. 1966).

 

Mr. Lasa-Ferrer served as counsel and secretary of the board of directors of Banco Financiero, a banking institution and served as counsel and member of the boards of directors of several major insurers. He also was Chairman of the Community Advisory Board of public television stations WMIJ and WQTO, and a former chair of the Health and Social Planning Committee of the City of San Juan.  He also served as general counsel and secretary for the board of directors of the Ricky Martin Foundation.

 

Mr. Lasa-Ferrer served as General Counsel to the Republican National Hispanic Assembly. He also served on the Puerto Rico House of Representatives Task Force charged with drafting the Puerto Rico Telecommunications Act of 1996 and was a member of the Puerto Rico Legal and Correctional Advisory Team to Panama, the Carter Center Legal Advisory Team to Nicaragua, and the Puerto Rico Task Force on Health Care Reform.  Mr. Lasa-Ferrer was  also a former member of the board of directors of the Puerto Rico Legal Services Corporation.

 

Mr. Lasa-Ferrer served the American Bar Association (ABA) in a variety of leadership positions including secretary of the ABA (2005-2008) and member of the ABA Board of Governors, representing the states of Maryland, Washington, Indiana, as well as the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. He  was recognized three times by the Puerto Rico Senate for Outstanding Achievement in the Legal Profession.
